Al Griffin

Growing up in Napa California set the stage for Al’s interest and passion for wine! As a young man, he looked forward to visits from family and friends and the winery visits and tastings that would follow. He has boundless stories about the early days of The Napa Valley, ask him, he enjoys sharing!

In his early 30’s, Al began extending his expertise to include the Old World, specifically focusing on wines from the Bordeaux region of France. Through the luck of fate, he met and formed long lasting friendships with collectors of wines from the 61 1855 Classified Growth chateaux. From here Al studied regions, varietals, terroir and wine making practices used in Italy, Spain, Germany and the other French wine regions.

In 2012, fate again looked kindly on Al, prompting him to move to the Pacific Northwest in time for an historic vintage in his new backyard(s): The Willamette Valley in Oregon and the Walla Walla Valley in Eastern Washington. Little did he know at the time, but the 2012 vintage was the start of a streak of outstanding vintages that elevated the Willamette Valley to a world class wine region sought for its outstanding Pinot Noirs and Chardonnays.

In 2015, with Northwest Wine Experience a mere glimmer, he started on the path to formalize his wine knowledge. The Wine & Spirits Education Trust (WSET) was his educator of choice. He has achieved level 1 and 2 certifications with Distinction and Level 3 in Wines with Merit. Today he continues his education through focused workshops and classes including increasing his sensory IQ and gaining more information about individual wineries and regions. Today Al’s private wine cellar counts 1,800 hundred bottles, from various regions and countries.

Al’s passion for wine is the motivation for starting NW Wine Experience. He wants to help others to learn and enjoy wines and the experiences they bring. He never wants to see a good bottle go to waste, creating the foundation for the Cellar Management service offering.
